Learning of the hardship and suffering that occurred at Levant was unsettling and depleting. I wanted to end on a positive note with the final painting and create something uplifting. ‘Levant Blessing’ attempts to send a visual prayer to those souls who worked at the mine over the years. A tree grows and although not in blossom, it shows hope for better things to come. The landscape is beginning to heal with greenery replacing the baron industrial landscape that stood before. The obelisk in the sky contains the suffering and negative impact from the mining era as it leaves, creating space for a happier, healthier, post industrial landscape to come.
